We have lost our Doktorvater! Other PhD students of Mark Goodacre at Birmingham have weighed in on his move to Duke with the same mix of congratulation and sorrow. Michael Strickland has posted on the addition of "4 More Americans," and Ken Olson has posted this bit of verse to XTalk:

Oh elsewhere on the worldwide web the listers laud this coup,
The blogs give kudos elsewhere, and elsewhere question Q,
And elsewhere men are staggered, and ponder Matthew's use by Luke,
But there is sadness here in Brum
For we are losing Mark to Duke.

For myself, I'm closer to the end of my studies than the beginning, and it should work out for Mark to continue to be my supervisor externally through the completion of my dissertation.
